Baseball as Poetry

In honor of these postseason baseball games, I share with you my very first piece of writing (hopefully original, but I can’t be sure) that I remember flowing from my #2 pencil.

I was in kindergarten when I wrote this masterpiece.

Baseball is my favorite sport
The sport I love to play
Oh, how I wish we won the game
The game we lost today.
Thanks for sharing this post!

Kablooey, I love the idea of a wager … but here’s the thing. I’m rooting for the Phillies tonight, and the Yankees tomorrow night. (I’m such a fair-weather sports fan.) The Dean is a Yankees fan, and truth be told, I am only a sports fan when any teams are in postseason. Could care less about the games normally. 🙂

I love my Phils, but I also would love my husband’s team to win the whole knish and kaboodle. (Sorry. Couldn’t resist.)

But hey, for being such a great friend and commentator here? You get a cheesesteak on me any ol’ time you want, my friend.

I agree, I really like how the 2nd and 4th lines both echo the ones before and add clarifying info. If your whole ‘ouvre’ gets published, maybe a PhD candidate can reference this early work? Oh, also: assuming you’re routing for Philly, right? Maybe we should do as the mayors do and make a wager: perhaps you can put up a cheesesteak and I can counter with a bagel with your choice of filling, a piece of cheesecake or a selection of knishes? (I’m rooting for the Yanks.)
